Looking at the tool you see it has a chisel edge on the curved head and a digit capture hole to carry the tool in a kydex holster. Now, I have written two volumes in the Blur of Darkness series, but to date, she hasn’t used the digit capture hole. The storyline doesn’t require taking an attacker using that capability. I am currently writing the third book so perhaps I should use that feature in volume three.

It also has a finger retention bump, which is one of the first times we actually made one onto a defender. There is also a double chisel edge at the bottom of the handle to quickly dispatch an opponent. It comes with lanyard holes for easy everyday carry.

On the head of the tool, there are two very sharp points that can cause injuries quickly or just manipulate a person around them with pain to take advantage of a situation. In the book, she might use one of those points to push an attacker back, and they might fall over something, down a staircase, or worse.

Also, the Blur of Darkness story is based on a real person, or as a matter of fact, there are a number of real people in the book. Closely connected to the second book is a character called Norski, and we made a self-defense tool for his series, too.

What this tool does in the real world is extraordinary. Start out with the curved head with a chisel edge; it can cut with ease or cause pain when applied to your attacker’s body. In an anti-grab escape, you can place the chisel edge on the back of the hand and rock it back and forth. I guarantee they will let go.

If they have heavy gloves on, then place one of the sharp points on the hand and drill by grinding the point into the gloved area. Or you can smash down on top of the capturing hands with the double knife edge, and that point will cause so much pain that they will let go. Also, with the bottom of the handle’s knife edge, you can forget the grabbing hands altogether and attack other parts of their body, like the arms reaching out to hold you.

You can also use one of the points to attack their neck or eyes. All the time they are holding onto your body with their grab, they can’t block our attack! You have a free shot at them and soft tissue or even their eyes. This tool was made to stop an attacker extremely quickly, and it does just that.

The digit capture hole can be used as designed by capturing it with a finger or thumb. Once you have one of those digits inside the capture hole, align the digit down the handle of your tool and place your hand on top of the digit, thus pinning it to the tool. Now, you can lift the tool or move it from one side or the other, and that will force the attacker to go in that direction. That can be very advantageous in a combat situation.

The finger retention bump allows large or small hands to adjust where they hold the tool. It can be very important for you to use the tool so that it is comfortable and fits your style of defensive fighting. Let’s look at the feature list to summarize the Blur of Darkness.
