The Be Real Series
Be Real is a 2 video instructional series unlike any other out on the market. Why? Master Brusso’s teacher, Master Ed Martin, was on one of his yearly visits to Master Brusso’s house. During our training, he made an interesting statement. “If you had only 10 hours to teach someone to protect themselves from the most violent attack you can imagine, what would you teach them?” That is an exciting challenge, so Master Brusso asked his students to divide into groups and make a lesson plan on the following Sunday. What came out of this challenge became “Be Real.”
Knife on Knife fighting video
Knife on knife fighting consists of a series of three videos. The first video describes what makes a good knife for fighting, with demonstrations, and also the concept of targets. There are two types of knife fighting systems.
1) Arterial
2) Solid blood organs
Most of the knife fighting systems are what is known as “Hot Weather,” where you see most of the attacks to the arms and body are slashes. If you are in a cold-weather location, this system is almost useless. So, we have developed an “All Weather System” as it will work wherever you find yourself.
The second and third videos contain all the techniques you will need to know to succeed in your self-defense. Again, this isn’t for a person who has a weak heart.
Knife Throwing video
Knife throwing is a valuable skill set to accomplish. It is said that you should never throw your knife, and there is some wisdom to that message. However, there are excellent times to throw your knife! If you are protecting yourself against others with a knife, there can be times when other attackers join in the fight, which draw a gun. If you need a few seconds to close the distance on that attacker with the gun to perform a gun disarm, throwing your knife at them can buy you the time to close the distance. In this video, you learn the three types of knife throwing skills you should acquire for your self-defense.
Knife on a Rope video
I would have to say that most Americans have never seen such a weapon. The knife on a rope mimics a 1500-year-old Ninja weapon known as a “Kyoketsu shoge.” When we have a knife on us, we can change its range of operation. Here you learn to put a 20-foot cord onto your pocket knife or the like and throw it out 20 feet to the target! Once you throw it, you can immediately retrieve it to throw it again. This significantly increases the range of your weapon and can come in very handy at the correct times. Your attackers will not even know what you have until it is too late. Learning how to use a knife on a rope is a great survival skill to accomplish and can serve you well in those survival situations too.
Simple Weapons Disarms
Disarming an attacker with a weapon can be very difficult at best. However, understanding the physics of disarms is a skill set you need to accomplish for your self-defense. You will learn how to disarm weapons with one simple principle, and it works on many types of weapons. Learning this skill set can save your life and the lives of your loved ones. It is indispensable for your self-defense skill sets.
Weapons Disarms Military Style
Military disarms are unique and a good thing to know. It follows the four weapons laws of disarms but usually ends up with an attacker severely injured. These types of disarms can take into account your environment; for example, disarms to be performed on an airplane which can be very problematic if you don’t do it correctly. Indeed, an excellent skill set to master if you should find yourself in one of these situations.
Hanbo [36" stick]
Many have seen movies where you see an old Japanese person hobbling along a road or pathway with his 36″ walking stick. Then, out of nowhere comes some attackers who have chosen the old man as a victim. To the attacker’s horror, that walking stick becomes one of the most potent weapons known for self-defense! In these two videos, you will learn the techniques of the Hanbo, and they will serve you well long into your years. Personally, I have used this skill set to defend myself from an attacker, just like I have used a Defender to protect myself from an attacker.
Combat Machete video
A machete is a tool used around the world. That means you need to learn how to protect yourself from a machete plus use it to stop an attacker. The Combat Machete video was shot at night with an infrared camera to set the stage for something ugly. Combat Machete is difficult to comprehend [a bit grusum] but not challenging to learn. A must for survival skills and good to know for your self-defense.
Arnis "Stick Fighting" video
Arnis is a style of stick fighting that comes from the Philippines and is super helpful to know. You learn how to fight with a stick, and these skill sets transfer over to use with a machete or other longer-bladed weapons. What you learn is how to block an attacker and then strike them with your weapon. Arnis is a very “tight” fighting style, and it was used in WWII in the jungles of the Philippines on the invading Japanese military. Proven in combat, so these skills will serve you well.
Combat Ax video
The standard camp or gardening ax can be a very devastating weapon! Legal to carry in your car, take hiking, or camping. However, not many people know how to fight with a standard camp ax. In this video series, you will learn the techniques that can save your life, and you will learn how to throw the camp ax!
