The Guardian Defender 2024
The Guardian Defender
Yet again, another really unique self-defense tool created by Master John Enger, the Grand Master of the Shinja school. Master Enger has been a fan of the Defenders since 2000 and owns every one of my (Master Peter Brusso) defenders. This is a design that will give you leeway on precision attacks when you are getting attacked.
We’ve integrated a few of our time-tested self-defense weapons features for better functionality. This tool has two bird beaks, much like the parrot, but if one was good, two must be better thinking. And that is very true.
Held in the hand, the bird’s beaks point toward the attacker. They can more efficiently defend against striking or kicking attacks. They also function more efficiently, pushing an attacker away. Placed anywhere on the body, those four bird beaks’ sharp points can highly motivate an attacker to get away from you.
The bird beaks can also be used against grabs by either drilling the points into the attackers’ hands or by attacking an individual finger. You place one of the bird beaks over a grabbing finger and twist. One of two things will happen: they will release you, or the finger will break.
The Guardian Edge comes with a digit capture hole that has a double function. One, it snaps into our Kydex holsters for easy carry and quick deployment. The other is our famous finger or thumb capture moves that allows you to move your attacker around like a ragdoll. It also has lanyard holes should you want to use a breakaway lanyard for easy everyday carry.
Finally, and completely new to the Defender feature line, are the “Raptor Claws” on the back side of the tool.
These little bad boys are for moving a person around with ease. You can reach over to an attacker and place one of these claws onto them, rotate your claw into them, and then they are yours to do much of what you might want to with them. Great for taking an attacker down.
Hold the tool vertically, move it between the attacker’s legs, rotate the tool horizontally, and pull back towards you with the tool hand, all the while pushing the attacker backward with your free hand, and the claws will sink into the back of their legs!
At this point, you keep moving, and the attacker will land flat on their back. If you performed this technique when the attacker was facing away from you, well, it’s face first onto the ground. This type of move is shown in our unlimited online Defender training video on this website.

The Guardian Edge is an excellent choice for self-defense and family protection. It offers many of the defensive lines proven in self-defense situations on the street or vehicles. You need the most proven and effective capabilities when you need to defend yourself or your loved ones from the evil people who roam the streets of this world.
One thing nice about the Defenders is that they are a defensive tool. A bad guy must be trying to hurt you by force, up close and personal to you before you would deploy such a tool for your self-defense. Make no mistake about it: they have no ability to hurt anyone who is not physically hurting you!
This is a powerful self-defense tool, and it must be used responsibly and only in legitimate self-defense situations.
Users must know and adhere to all local, state, and federal laws regarding the use of a self-defense tool. In addition, check out the TSA-prohibited items on aircraft or similar transportation. However, I’m sure you can’t take this on transportation that the TSA screens.
Also, make sure to review the laws about carrying self-defense tools wherever you intend to take them. My tools, Master Peter Brusso, are for ethical and legal use only. That is true with all my Defender products.
Master John Enger also emphasizes the need to exhibit extreme restraint when using this tool and always remember your morals plus ethical requirements when utilizing the Guardian Edge.
