Solo Kydex Holster 2024
Solo Kydex Holster
Dr. Q made a Kydex holster design to get us started on making really easy deployable holsters for all the Defenders with a digit capture hole. Very few don’t, so this holster-carrying option was practical.
The Solo holster has four holes that fit paracord or any other suitable gauge cordage. You can put your holster wherever you want to attach it to your gear or the like. Two indented areas in the holster provide a clamshell-type capture action.
A Defender slides up into the clamshell, moving the two halves apart and thus accepting the tool. As you continue to push the tool into the clamshell, the indents of the Kydex material snap into the Defender digit capture hole. Now, your Defender is secure and ready for rapid deployment with a quick tug on the Defender tool.
We chose the Kydex material as it is well-suited for a wide range of environmental conditions. This makes Kydex a popular choice for both everyday carry and professional use in various climates.
With a functional temperature range of -20°F (-29°C) and 200°F (93°C).
The most we have observed is slight deformation of the holster when left in scorching conditions. If at all possible, don’t place the Kydex holsters in closed conditions with direct sunlight hitting them.
There have been cases of Defender holsters exposed to direct sunlight in a car where the holster was left on the dashboard. That is the bad news. The good news is that as it was so hot, you could use a metal tool or knife to push it back into position. Once you get it back to its original look and function, remove it from the dashboard and let it cool down.
I have even purposely deformed the holster with a hairdryer and put it back into its original configuration. Kydex begins to soften around 300°F (149°C). The best tool for reconfiguration is a heat gun, which you can purchase almost anywhere in the world.
But there is always an oven that you cook in as well. The point is that you can heal any heat issues with your holster with common heat sources. If your metal gun or knife breaks or deforms, well, good luck with fixing that yourself.
The Solo Holster’s design took a lot of time. It is simple, quick to deploy, and allows you to affix it in the way you want. It has been in the field without any issues, so the simple yet efficient holster has stood the test of time and combat.
It was designed to capture and carry any of our Defenders that have digit capture holes. It works across the majority of our models for sale.
