Parrot 2024

The Parrot

The Parrot was invented to make a forward-sharp point into something more. It would be nice to add even more pain deterrent to someone who was trying to punch, kick, or grab you.

I, Master Peter Brusso, had a family member who had an obnoxious, rather large, green parrot that liked to bite you. Their beak was or could be darn near deadly. I had heard of people having their fingers broken by their bite.

So, it came to me to take a Spec Ops curved point and make it immolate a parrot’s beak but open toward the attacker.

Now, being the engineer, I knew I couldn’t make the beak close on an attacker’s finger, much like a green parrot bite, but if I made the bird beak just right, it would fit over a finger or thumb of a grab, and with a quick twist, the finger should snap, if they didn’t let go of you first.

Well, we never really tried to break a finger, but we did simulate it with small hardwood dowels, and it did a nice job of breaking them!

We added the open beak to a tool, kept the rear point claw feature, and the point at the bottom of the handle as that was priceless in one’s self-defense, but we wanted just a bit more capability.

We added a digit capture hole, as we have on many of our models. If you get the opportunity to capture a finger or thumb, the fight is most likely over. You can hold the attacker in a finger/thumb lock until help arrives. However, it was time to keep thinking about more features.

I went through all the suggestions I had received over the few years I had been designing these tools and hit on one thing: a thinner handle.

It is challenging to make one hand fit all, and we have run into that issue over the years. I started to make models for thicker and thinner hands, and the parrot fit that requirement.

With two points facing the attacker, less precision was required to deliver a painful reception of a punch or a kick.

This is a good thing for combat as, by nature, it is chaotic. Needing to deliver a precision strike in combat is far more difficult than just getting close enough to attain the desired result.

A rifle shot versus a hand-grenade. With all that in mind, let’s look at the features list.

Key Features:

  1. Parrot beak-inspired design for enhanced pain deterrent
  2. Dual forward-facing points for less precision-dependent strikes
  3. Rear point claw feature for versatile defense options
  4. Bottom handle point for additional defensive capabilities
  5. Digit capture hole for controlling attackers
  6. Thinner handle design to accommodate various hand sizes
  7. Effective against punches, kicks, and grabs
  8. Potential for finger/thumb locks to end confrontations quickly
  9. Compact and easily concealable
  10. Non-lethal design focusing on pain compliance and control
  11. Engineered for chaotic combat situations
  12. Access to free online, unlimited training resources

When you are looking for a fully featured self-defense tool, the Parrot is an excellent choice. At that time, we had not developed the sharp chisel edge designs, but this would be a good add-on to a Parrot downstream.

In addition, you have 24/7 access to free Defender training on the website. There is a section specifically for the Parrot close to the end of the general training.

This self-defense tool is extremely powerful and should only be used responsibly in genuine self-defense situations. Users must be familiar with and comply with all local, state, and federal laws concerning the use of a self-defense tool.

The Parrot has sharp points, so it will not pass through a TSA checkpoint. It would be best to put it in with your check-on luggage. It is completely legal at that point. Should you desire to have a Defender on board, then take a Guppy or a Traveler.

Additionally, it’s essential to review the TSA’s list of prohibited items on flights or similar regulations. Make sure also to understand the laws regarding the carrying of self-defense tools in any location where you intend to have them.

My tools, like those from Master Peter Brusso, are intended for ethical and legal use only, and this principle applies to all of my Defender products.
