The Defender Lanyard 2024
Lanyard
I invented the first three tools, The Guppy, Rabbit, and Defender 1 before I realized I needed an easy-to-carry option for them. I researched options on the web, and as expected, there wasn’t anything suitable for the Defenders. I needed a two-part Lanyard. One that attaches to something, and the other end connects to the tool. But it had to break away, leaving it attached to “Something” and the other end attached to the Defender.
I have attended many conventions in my professional life as an Engineer. I recalled seeing all kinds of lanyards for convention badges, including some very clever ones. So, I started to look at online badge makers. I had no idea there were so many badge attachment items! There were literally thousands of them!
I found an attachment scheme, but it wasn’t as robust as I needed. Also, what cord should I use? I found some twisted cords at a local hardware store and took various versions of that back for testing.
The cord pulled through the “Snap” quick disconnect—the wall strength of the snap needed to be different. Finally, after about ten tries, I solved that problem and got a good solution for the Lanyard. The snaps are rated at over 1,000 snaps before you would need to replace them. Perfect!
Now, we have a reliable Lanyard that snaps apart. I leave it up to the client to figure out what to attach the Lanyard to. You can merely loop it onto your pants loop and then attach the other end to the Defender. We make the Lanyards, so the tool hangs down from your pants just about where your hand naturally hangs, too. It is easy to find and deploy quickly and almost silently.
I have had my Defender “Snag” on things, and the Lanyard deploys the tool, but it takes a good tug to do that. So, it is rare that your tool gets snagged in something, but that can happen with almost anything. When not in a danger zone, and if you have BDUs or the like, I place my tool in my leg pocket. Then, when I get into a danger zone, I pull it out and let it dangle from my side, ready for use.
With a Lanyard, you can connect it to a purse, other parts of your clothing, backpack, or many different places that you might require to carry your Defender.
In addition, I, Master Peter Brusso, use various small, black-colored carabineers or spring hooks on my Lanyards. I hook it to the belt loop of my pants.
We sell the Lanyards in two colors: Yellow-gold and black.
