Very Aggressive — The Owl
The Owl is the most capable tool in the Defender line — built for the worst case, when help isn’t coming and you’re on your own. It was commissioned by a solo Border Patrol agent, a former Marine working a remote station where no backup would arrive, who needed a Defender that could handle anything. So the Owl carries more defensive options than any other: dual beak points to stop punches, kicks, and grabs; a teardrop digit-capture hole that locks on more securely than a round one; circular points to break a rear grab or choke; a chisel edge to take away a weapon-holding hand’s grip; and striking points top and bottom. Non-lethal, serious, and built to stop a determined threat within the limits of legal self-defense.

The Owl— the story
He wandered the desert like a Bedouin of old — always vigilant, always watching, day and night, for trouble to find him. One day he crossed paths with another wanderer doing the same kind of work, and learned about something that might give him a little peace of mind: a Defender. He found out where to go to see one.
That’s how I got the call. The government wanted to talk, and who turned up in the hills near Anaheim was a crusty old Border Patrol agent — a former Marine, made of tough stuff — who wanted a Defender built just for him. His duty station was so remote that if he ever called for help, no one would reach him in time. So his tool couldn’t be like the others. It had to be more than all of them put together. We called it the Owl — a solo bird of prey that works the night, which was exactly this man’s world.
The Owl was built to give one person, alone, the most options possible. The dual beak points stop a punch, kick, or grab. The teardrop digit-capture hole traps a finger or thumb and holds it more securely than a round hole — enough to control an attacker and stop a fight. The ring of points is for the worst positions — a grab or a choke from behind, where you need to break the hold and get free fast. The chisel edge takes away a weapon-holding hand’s grip: set it against a hand holding a knife or gun and the goal is simple — make them drop it, so the weapon is out of the fight. And there are striking points at the top of the head and the base of the handle for stopping power against hard, bony structure.
Every one of those does the same job: taking away an attacker’s ability to keep coming, so a person who’s completely on their own can end the threat and get to safety. That’s the whole idea behind the Owl — when no one is coming to help, you want more capability, not less.
And the rule is the same as for every Defender: it’s meant to stop a threat and get you to safety, never to punish, and to be used within the limits of legal self-defense. This is one of the most capable tools I make, and it deserves to be carried responsibly.

TSA / carry
The Owl has a pointed profile, so it can’t clear a TSA checkpoint. When you fly, pack it in checked luggage, and always check the current rules for wherever you plan to carry. Review TSA’s prohibited-items list and the self-defense-tool laws for anywhere you’ll be. If you want a lower-profile everyday option, the blunt Phantom is easier to carry day to day — but no tool should be relied on to pass a security screening.
Legal
The Owl is one of the most capable tools in the Defender line, meant only for genuine, responsible self-defense — to stop a threat and get you to safety, never to punish an attacker. You’re responsible for knowing and following all local, state, and federal laws on carrying and using a self-defense tool wherever you go, including TSA rules when you travel. Every Defender is designed by Master Peter Brusso for ethical, legal use only.
